Saliegh Richards to compete for a spot at one of Belgium’s top football clubs.jpg

M. Saliegh Richards, a Grade 11 leader at The Leadership College Manenberg, departed on Sunday the 20th September 2015 to compete for a spot at one of Belgium's top football clubs. M. Saliegh is an avid sportsman excelling in sporting codes such as Soccer, Rugby and Athletics.
Currently he holds the U17 long jump record at the Annual Athletics Meeting which is held at Camps Bay High School. Also, M. Saliegh has received many accolades in soccer, rugby and athletics and he has also represented Western Province in various codes.

Second Interfaith Camp to Bloublommetjies Camping Site

On the 4th September 2015, our leaders embarked on their second Interfaith Camp to Bloublommetjies Camping Site in Wellington. The camp seeks contribute to the alleviation of religious prejudices and promoting religions embracing and leading harmonious lives. Our leaders were accompanied by Mrs Davidson. They form part of an organization called the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative. The schools which form part of this Initiative is Herzlia, Spine Road High School, Rylands High School, Oude Molen Technical School, Langa High School and Garden Commercial High School.

TLC Participated in the Regional Eskom Expo

On the 2nd September 2015, TLC participated in the Regional Eskom Expo for young Scientists at the University of Cape Town. Our Head Boy Lonwabo Nkonzo and Abdus-shakoor Kippie both received bronze for their project and Glen Mpho Makhoba received a gold medal along with the award for the Best Male Project. Amongst the competition were 44 other participating schools including Bishops Diocesan College, Rondebosch Boys High School, Wynberg Boys' High School, Herzlia, Herschel Girls High school and many other top schools in Cape Town.
Despite the fact that TLC competed with the lack of resources at their school, they managed to get the above mentioned awards. Glen Mpho Makhoba will represent the school and also Cape Town at the Science Festival taking place in Johannesburg in October 2015. Thereafter, students will be chosen to represent South Africa at the science expo abroad.

Extra Classes For Manenberg Grade 10 TopAchievers

Pastor Sam Henkeman, a pastor from the local church in the area, had taken the initiative of starting a tutor programme for Grade 10 learners in the Manenberg area who excel in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Accounting and provide with the necessary tuition of excelling and achieving A passes in their studies. A few students from the University of Cape Town use their personal time in giving these students the necessary guidance.
The programme seeks to provide learners with a base in the subjects needed for tertiary admission; but mainly to alleviate the poverty stricken circumstances these children face on a daily basis.

Royal Grammar School from Lancashire Visit

On Saturday, 1st August 2015, TLC was honored to play a team from the United Kingdom called Royal Grammar School from Lancashire. The result was in our favor as we beat them 35-15. Despite the fact that the result was in our favor, Royal Grammar School had displayed a very good brand of rugby.
The match took place at the Surrey Estate Rangers Rugby Field in Surrey Estate.

Cape Town Interfaith Initiative

On Monday, 17th August 2015, schools such as Spine Road High School, Rylands High School, Herzlia High School, Gardens Commercial High School, Langa High School, Oude Molen High School and The Leadership College who are all members of the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative, held their session at TLC Manenberg.
The abovementioned schools holds these monthly meetings at various venues of the schools. On Monday, cameraman and producers from the Bonsani Insync Productions filmed the session at The Leadership College Manenberg as the topic that was dealt was Xenophobia.

DG Murray Trust Visit

On Monday, 17th August 2015, the Executive Members of the DG Murray Trust graced us with their presence by visiting The Leadership College in Manenberg. The members of the Trust was welcomed by Dr Ali Adam, Chairman of the 2 Oceans Education Foundation and then they watched a promotional video on the establishment and achievements of The Leadership College.
The DG Murray Trust seeks to alleviate poverty by contributing to human development in poverty-stricken communities in ways ranging from attire to education. It is with this, that the Executive Members came to pay The Leadership College Manenberg a visit.

TLC Official Launch

On the 7th August 2015, the 2 Oceans Education Foundation and The Leadership Colleges had its Official Launch with the Guest speaker Prof. Jonathan Jansen, Guest of Honor Premier Helen Zille. At the event Consul Generals from countries such as Madagascar, Mozambique, Italy, France, Indonesia and many more graced us with their presence. Imam Talib Shareef, Imam of the Nations Mosque in Washington D.C., and Imam Abdul Rachman Shareef flew in from Washington D.C. to grace us with their presence and also indicated the link between the USA and South Africa.
The event was a resounding success as the organization and schools received many good compliments and well wishes from personalities such as Dr. Trevor Manuel, His Royal Highness Tengku Adnan, President of Cricket South Africa Haroon Lorgat and many more. The purpose of the event was to display the work done by the organization and what the future plans were.
The Guest Speaker Prof. Jonathan Jansen had the crowd in stitches as he delivered his very dynamic and fruitful words of wisdom. The Guest of Honor Premier Helen Zille also expanded on her vision for the upgrading of Manenberg and its surroundings.

Discover Islam Annual Nasheed Competition Winners Girls Section

On the 31st May 2015, our Nasheed girls competed in the exact same competition as our Nasheed boys.
TLC girls Nasheed group was one of the 9 groups who competed in the annual Nasheed Competition.
The girls recieved the award for the best drummer which was played by Nabilah Saban and then TLC recieved the Winners trophy with Al-Azhar and Darunaim placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
We are extremely proud of the girls and we wish them all the best for the future.

TLC Leader rubbing Big shoulders

Grade 8 TLC Leader Qaanita Stemmet alongside former Deputy President of South Africa and now the Director of the United Nations for Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.
Qaanita Stemmet is a member of an organization called the Rock Girls which seeks to alleviate the vulnerability of young girls being drawn into rape and abuse. The organization allow these girls to visit and interview influential women in the world and to seek advice from these women which the Rock Girls can take home and spread it amongst their communities.
We wish the Rock Girls all the best and we hope they keep up the encouraging work which is being done in the advancement of young girls in disadvantaged areas.

Discover Islam Annual Nasheed Competition

On the 31st May 2015, our senior boys Nasheed Group entered the Discover Islam annual Nasheed Competition for the third consecutive time.
TLC competed against 6 other schools in this very tough competition. Despite the fact that it was a competition, it brought together so many Muslims in one building for the main purpose of praising God Almighty.
For the past 2 years TLC has blown the crowds away with their stellar performances but always managed to take 2nd place. However, this year TLC pulled out all the stops and not only managed to take 1st prize in the competition, but also took the individual awards for the best drummer and best soloist.
We wish the group all the best for the future, and we also wish the other groups all the best for the competition and success of their respective schools and studies.

Let The Change Be Concert

On the 31st May 2015, the artists who visited our school from an organisation called Let The Change Be or LTCB, hosted a peace concert at the Baxter Theatre.
Two of TLCs leaders were honored to have performed along side these amazing artists. The leaders were Nathanzo Schultz who performed along side well-known musician Idris Phillips in a song called Father and son written and sung by the famous Cat Stevens.
The other song was sung by Robyn Van Der Vent who also performed alongside Idris Phillips in a song called Little Rose written and sung by Idris Phillips. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing as the singers both received a standing ovation for their stellar performances.

Life Coaching Graduation

On the 30th May 2015, 7 of TLCs pioneering group of 2014 matriculants graduated from their 1 year intensive life coaching course.
Despite the fact that these students were well underway in their respective courses at university, they could still set aside time for their once in a lifetime life coaching course. Under the auspices of Patricia Manshon, these leaders can now open their own practices life coaching and actually make a living from it!!
The leaders are: M. Tolieb Solomons,Rumanah Mosaval, Achmat Isaacs, Thuraiyah Isaacs, Moeneeb Isaacs, Ayub Abdullah, Mahirah Sydow, Farzaanah Collins.
We, as TLC, would like to congratulate these leaders and wish them everything of the best!

Voice of the Cape Interview

On the 29th May 2015, all the outstanding TLC sport achievers went to the radio station, Voice Of The Cape.
This was something very different for our leaders, as it is said that many talents in disadvantaged areas are overlooked. However, on the 29th May 2015 from 21:00 -22:30, the TLC sporting heroes conducted and interview with presenter Kamaal Salasa.
The interview evolved around what the leaders at TLC had achieved and what their future plans were. This interview allowed many leaders at the school to ponder and think about what they would want to become as they were listening to their peers on live radio.

African Day

On the 26th and 27th May 2015, TLC did their bit in promoting Africa Day!
On the day each house namely, Vita, Valde, Virtuoso and Delphi had to come up with items that would be presented at an assembly and where leaders would recieve points toward their house.
Houses had to do a play, a song item and a slideshow which would depict Africa Day. This was an absolutely amazing event which took place because it had allowed the leaders to explain their view as to what it is like to be an African but most importantly what it would be like to be a human being.
Leaders came up with amazing ideas and they were judge by a panel which then meant that they would recieve points for their respective houses.

Let The Change Be

On the 26th May 2015, TLC leaders and teachers were honored by hosting an organization known as Let The Change Be of LTCB for short.
The original name of the organization was called Jamal Records which was started and founded by the very famous Yusuf Islam formerly known as Cat Stevens. The visitors who came with this organisation was another famous musician, songwriter and poet, Idris Phillips, a professional photographer and Film Maker who graduated from the New York School of Film in Hollywood Mustafa Davis and another singer and poet Alman Nusrat.
These artists were accompanied by their manager and son-in-law of the famous Yusuf Islam, Majid Hussein. These artists visited various schools and organizations in Cape Town with the sole purpose of spreading peace amongst all the bad things currently happening.
When they visited TLC, they entertained the leaders with a mini concert and thereafter held photography and songwriting workshops for those leaders who were keen on following that career path.

Zain Bika visited TLC

Internationally acclaimed nasheed artist Zain Bhika visited our school and brought long his son Rashid Bhika as well as his good friend and internationally acclaimed artist Khalid Belrhouzi.
It was Zain Bhika's 5th time he's been to the school and he has made it his personal duty that whenever he is in Cape Town, he always tend to end up at TLC!
Zain Bhika has recently left on tour to the United Kingdom where he will be performing at 14 sold out shows.
Zain Bhika has been extremely good to our leaders as he has exposed them to many things music artist face on a daily basis.

Historic Moment

On the 20th May 2015, TLC hosted approximately 400 students from the surrounding schools in the Manenberg area which would see the start of a Matric Tuition Programme hosted by TLC. This was the first of such a programme in the Manenberg area as it would allow students from the gang infested area to rewrite the history of Manenberg.
On a daily basis, different subjects are offered and students are given a meal before every session. The students are required to attend the classes from 15:30 - 17:00 Monday to Saturday. So far the students has not disappointed themselves by not pitching up as classes has been packed to capacity.
The tuition programme seeks to provide learners in trying circumstances with a chance of getting an excellent pass in Matric and also to assist and guide them into the necessary career paths. These students has alerted some of their peers that when it comes to the end of the year, they will recieve an excellent pass which would grant them access into university.

Inaugural Netball Tournament

On the 19th of May 2015, TLC Cape Town hosted its Inaugural Netball Tournament with TLC Hyde Park and TLC Observatory as its participants. TLC CPT came out victors with TLC Obz placing second and TLC Hyde Park claiming third place. Despite the fact that it was just 3 schools participating, the competition was extremely tough as the girls were eager to showcase their dominating netball skills and vision. The tournament organizers hope to expand this tournament to the other schools and hope to attract larger crowds to come out and support!

  • Mrs Ashra Norton explains how The Leadership College strives to develope Leaders of the future and teach values through respect and confidence. Ashra Norton is the founder of the school.
    As a resident of Manenberg she attended the Silverstream Primary and High School. When she completed her schooling career, she applied to university to complete a degree in Pharmaceuticals. However, because she came from a very poor background, her parents did not have the funds to send her to complete her course. At the time the government only gave bursaries to coloured and black students for teaching.
